Today the MGL scale I published in Medical Care in 1986 has been cited over 7000 times in medical journals. In a large-scale randomized clinical trial, I compared patients who received an educational intervention and educational consultation to patients in a standard care group. 5-year study outcomes identified significant positive differences in patient knowledge of the medical regimen, higher levels of adherence behavior, and reduced levels of morbidity and mortality.
