The Morisky Scale can also benefit health insurance carriers through the use of Chronic Care Management (CCM) services. CCM services are intended to improve the health outcomes of chronically ill patients by providing them with regular care coordination, medication management, and other support services. These services are typically non-face-to-face and can be provided by a physician or other qualified healthcare professional. CCM services are billed under CPT 99490 for chronically ill Medicare patients and require at least 20 minutes of non-face-to-face time directed by a physician or other qualified health care professional per calendar month.
Here are some ways that the use of the Morisky Scale in CCM services can benefit health insurance carriers:
  1. Better Patient Outcomes: By using the Morisky Scale as a screening tool for CCM services, healthcare providers can identify patients with poor medication adherence and develop tailored care plans to improve adherence. This can lead to better patient outcomes, such as improved health, reduced hospitalizations, and lower healthcare costs.
  2. Improved Quality of Care: The use of the Morisky Scale in CCM services can help healthcare providers to better monitor patient medication adherence and adjust care plans as needed. This can lead to improved quality of care, increased patient satisfaction, and improved patient retention.
  3. Cost Savings: By identifying patients with poor medication adherence and providing them with CCM services, healthcare providers can help prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and other costly medical interventions. This can lead to cost savings for both patients and health insurance carriers.
  4. Incentives for Healthcare Providers: Health insurance carriers can offer incentives to healthcare providers who use the Morisky Scale in CCM services, such as higher reimbursement rates or bonuses for meeting certain patient outcomes. This can encourage healthcare providers to use the Morisky Scale more frequently and lead to better patient outcomes.
